Conformation
General Properties - Belle combines type, power, soundness, and extraordinary athleticism and intelligence. She is an elegant, flashy red brindle bitch with brilliant white markings. She has a sparkling coat that always seems "just washed, " and lots of jet black pigment. She is an extraordinary mover from every angle – she has a beautiful roll accentuated by her markings, and she moves straight down from the shoulder in front and straight down from the hip from behind. She has the reach and drive of a working dog, and naturally carries her head up with her mouth shut and her eye on her handler. She weighs about 60 pounds, and maintains a perfect weight for her size on her own – she’s not fussy and never over eats.
Head - Belle has a very clean, classic brick-shaped head with excellent length and a deep stop which extends the full length of her skull. She has a wide, true jaw which buttons up with no teeth showing. Her front teeth form an absolutely straight line. Her skull is perfectly flat, but the lay back of her nose could be slightly flatter. She has a beautiful full foreface and cheeks. Her ears are small and properly set; ideally, we would like them finer. Her eyes are dark, round, healthy and properly set.
Body - Belle is a perfectly balanced bitch who never takes an awkward step and can’t stand any way but squarely. She has a magnificent front, with well-set cathedral shoulders, and deep, well-sprung rib and brisket. She has strong, well-arched neck, accentuated by a wide ruff and a perfect topline which ends in a very low set a pump tail. The line of her back forms a perfect curve which flows with no break down through the tip of her tail. Her underline follows her top line perfectly, with deep tuck up. She is pear shaped. She has excellent bone, a strong rear, and perfect, neat little feet. Despite her size and substance, there is nothing coarse or doggy about her.
Temperament and Health - Belle is not meant for the faint of heart. She is intense, bold, energetic and confident– she has "the look of eagles" in her eye – but she is also eager to please. She has never been "pacific and dignified, " but was willing to fake it just long enough to finish with three majors. When she’s "on," she gives the impression of barely restrained power as she moves, then she free stacks herself perfectly and dares the judge to look away. When she’s not, she’s been known to do somersaults in the ring. She is exceptionally intelligent, and unlike most bulldogs, needs to work to be happy. She is playful, outgoing and very affectionate. She is an alpha personality with a sense of humor.
At five, Belle has no medical history – she gets shots each year. Her mother and grandmother have been the same. She has an excellent throat and exceptionally wide nostrils. Her eyes are clear and healthy. She has no allergies, and a healthy coat. She moves the same way now as she did when she turned one. Her heart is healthy, and she is in extraordinary shape structurally.
Belle’s lines tend to mature slowly, but they have great staying power – they are still in remarkable physical condition well into their senior years.
SHOW RECORD
Belle finished with three majors, one under breeder/judge Birdie Newbill at the back-up show to the Lower Susquehanna BC Specialty. We showed her on a limited basis as a young bitch, basically in an attempt to develop manners even though she was not mature enough to win. We took her out after her first litter (of one).
We co-own Belle, along with the pups from her second litter, with Nancy Schultz. Her son, Win-An's Resolute Remington, was pointed as a puppy. Nancy is considering starting her this spring in obedience, along with her daughter Win-An’s Resolute Hell’s Bells.
BREEDING RECORD
Belle’s mother, Resolute Stardust, is doing well at nine. She is somewhat arthritic and her eyes are getting dry, but she is otherwise in perfect shape. Dusty’s mother, Ch. Post Hoc Whitney Houston, died in her sleep at eleven and half; she was still clear eyed, still healthy, but moving a little slower. Dusty’s father, Ch. DEYDEL STEADFAST HERCULES, lived to 10 and is in the Hall of Fame with 13 champions, as are both of his parents; his father died at 13 and grandmother lived to 15. Belle's mother produced 3 champions in two litters; two of these finished with specialty majors. Her maternal grandmother and great-grandmother both produced two champions.
Belle’s father, CH CHEROKEE DAKOTA ROBERT, is a Hall of Fame top producer, as is his sire, CH. PRESTWICK GAWAIN. Robert is a multiple Best in Show at all breed shows, with more specialty Best of Breeds than any other bulldog in history; in 2000 he passed a record that stood for 40 years. Robert was still going BOB at specialties at age 7 – from the specials class. Robert’s sire was Best of Breed at the Nationals, a multiple Best in Specialty and Best in Show at all breed shows, and a Beckett Award Winner. Robert’s dam, Ch. Dakota Arrogant Harriet, produced 3 champions from Robert’s litter -- all of whom finished with specialty majors. Harriet took her first specialty Best of Breed at under one year of age. Harriet’s sire, CH HETHERBULL BOUNTY'S FRIGATE, was Nationals Best of Breed, set the all-time Best in Show record for bulldogs at all breed shows, and was a Beckett Award Winner.
Belle’s littermate, Ch. Resolute Sonrise Risin’ Star, has produced three champions from two litters to date, including Ch. Resolute Sonrise Polaris, who was Best in Sweepstakes at the 1999 Nationals and finished with three specialty majors. We expect her fourth champion to finish shortly – she just needs a major. Belle’s littermate Resolute Emma Pauline produced one champion – Ch. Resolute Victoria’s Secret, who finished with three majors, including 5 points at the Chesapeake Bulldog Club of Greater Baltimore, under Ruth Williams.
Belle has had two litters. Her first litter of one was not shown. Her pups from the second litter, Win-An's Resolute Remington and Win-An's Resolute Hell's Bells, are expected to start being shown this year.
