Conformation

General Properties Daffy was a very clean, balanced, cobby little bitch who was shown at approximately 48 pounds.  She was deep red with clear white markings; she had a white ruff, chest, blaze/muzzle and white socks.  She had a black mask and heavy "shoe polish black" pigment.  She had a short, slick, glossy "patent leather" coat, with no allergies or skin problems.  She was a wash and wear dog who always looked ready to show.

She had a good throat and wide nostrils, and always showed with her mouth shut.  She had enormous presence, and stood out from the time was 12 weeks old.  She was very poised and focused in the show ring; at home she was relaxed, playful and affectionate.  She was calm and easy-going, and got along well with people and dogs in general.  She was a very strong mover from every angle, with a beautiful roll.  She was a natural show dog who gaited easily, carried her head up and stacked herself squarely without moving a muscle.

Head -  Daffy had a well-proportioned head with an outstanding jaw.  Her jaw buttoned up perfectly and was absolutely true, with correct length and tremendous width and turnup; her upper and lower front teeth were absolutely straight.  She had a deep stop which extended the full length of her skull, and excellent layback of the nose and skull.  Her nose laid back perfectly into the line of her skull.  She had well-developed cheeks.  Her ears were small, thin and properly set; none of the ears in her litter needed to be glued.  Her eyes were almost black,, properly set, and completely healthy . . . she never even had tear stains.  Daffy had a very clean head with a single wrinkle over the nose.  She had a beautiful, well-arched neck.

Body -  Daffy was a perfectly balanced, very sound, "typey" little bitch who was extremely successful with breeder judges.  She was short-backed and thick for her size, without being at all doggy or overdone.  She had excellent rib, chest, brisket, and tuckup, and a beautiful neck.  She had a decent topline, but her tail set could have been lower.  Her rear was properly angulated with well let-down hocks.  She has no hip, stifle or cruciate problems, and she was naturally well muscled. She had perfect, tight little feet and strong pasterns.  Her shoulders and elbows were sound and well-constructed.

Show Record

Daffy was extremely competitive from her first appearance at a specialty match show at the age of 12 weeks.  As a young pup, she was Best Puppy in Match at the Bulldog Club of New Jersey, Long island Bulldog Club, Bulldog Club of Philadelphia and Bulldog Club of Connecticut Specialty matches; Best of Opposite Sex in the Bulldog Club of New Jersey Breeders Futurity; and Reserve Winners Bitch at the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia Specialty show at 6 months old.  We started to show her at ten months of age; she was finished at the age of 12 months, with three majors.

She was a breeders bitch and did well whenever a breeder was judging.  As a special, she was rarely shown except at specialty shows and backups; she had nine Specialty Best of Opposites, and was group placing.

Breeding Record

Her Background

Daffy’s sire was our CH. DEYDEL STEADFAST HERCULES. Herc was a BCA Hall of Fame top producer, with 13 champions to his credit.  Her mother, Jenny’s Darling Daphne, was a well-balanced, very well-muscled little bitch with a short back and a spectacular head; she was deep red with a very slick glossy coat. Daphne’s sire, Ch. Bounty’s Arrogant Mutineer sired nine champions.  We leased Daphne, who had one litter of four; she produced two champions from that litter, and a third who accumulated ten points and a specialty reserve before an eye injury stopped his show career.

Her Pups

Daffy was not a successful brood bitch: she had one litter with one surviving pup.  Fortunately, her one and only son, Ch. Resolute Doublenought (who we call Calvin), finished with a specialty major and a group-placement from the classes and was group placing as a special; and a significant number of his pups look like Daffy.  Calvin and many of his kids have Daffy’s temperament.
