Conformation
Dubbie is all
muscle and bone with a head that stops people in their tracks and an expression
that melts hearts. He weighs 62 pounds. Dubbie is a very clean dog,
perfectly marked clear, deep red with a white ruff, white chest and belly and
white socks; he has a red head with a perfect white blaze and muzzle, with and a
black mask. He has very heavy black pigment. He has a "patent leather"
coat – very short, slick and glossy. He has a nice roll and very good reach and
drive and good rear movement; he comes in very slightly in front. He is a
quiet, very mild, sweet, gentle dog; he is very affectionate with people,
playful, and he gets along well with dogs of all ages and both sexes. He
has no interest in being top dog, and is happiest with some one to follow.
Dubbie has an extraordinary head – even in a kennel where we spay/neuter
everything that doesn’t have an outstanding head. His head is brick-shaped
and massive but very clean, with beautiful length, width and turn of jaw.
His jaw is perfectly true, his teeth are absolutely straight and he buttons up
perfectly. His mouth is always shut regardless of heat or exertion.
He has nice layback and a perfect stop, with a well broken up skull. His
eyes are very dark and healthy, with an exceptionally soft, sweet expression.
His ears are properly set and rosed.
Dubbie is a short-backed, compact dog with good rib and very heavy bone.
He is heavily muscled, particularly through the neck and shoulders. He has
a nice topline and low set tail which is tighter than the ideal.
Show Record
Thanks to his sisters’ efforts to play tug-o-war with his ears, Dubbie sat out
the puppy stuff waiting for a ear to heal — he still has scar tissue.
Despite his late start, he had 8 points, a major and a specialty reserve under
Jack Segall when we decided we weren’t getting the best out of him in the show
ring. He was sweet, but stubborn and as hard as we tried, we couldn’t get
him to strut his stuff the way we could with our other dogs. We asked
Nancy Schultz to handle him and she finished him easily. Thanks to Nancy
for a superb job of conditioning, handling and “attitude adjustment” for the
ring..
Breeding Record
Dubbie has three had litters, all outcrosses. The first litter has four girls.
He was bred to a long backed bitch who was somewhat nosey. All of his get
had shorter backs and better layback compared to the dam. One is being
shown.
The second litter was from a well-bred bitch with a nice body with not much head
whose head lacked foreface. There are four young pups from this litter.
One male and one bitch are in show homes.
