Conformation
General Properties - Hippo was a strong, flashy red and white piebald who weighed 62 pounds in peak show condition. She was beautifully balanced and an outstanding mover with a natural show attitude. She moved out easily and stacked herself squarely with her head up. She had beautiful skin and coat, with no allergies or other skin problems. She was heavy boned a pear shaped, and despite her size, feminine.
Head - Hippo had a long, clean, well broken up skull with a deep stop extending the full length of the skull. Her eyes were almost black and completely healthy-- she never even had cataracts or dry eyes as she aged. She had very small, fine, properly set ears which rosed naturally. The layback of her skull was correct, but she was somewhat nosey and slightly down-faced. Her pigment was excellent, and she had well rounded cheeks. She had a wide, true jaw with absolutely straight teeth; the length and turn-up of the jaw were not as good as most of our dogs. She was nicely wrinkled, but not coarse or doggy.
Body - Although she was big, Hippo’s body was hard to fault. She had outstanding rib, chest, shoulders and brisket. She was short-backed, with a beautiful topline and tail set. Her underline and tuckup were outstanding. She was heavy-boned without being coarse. She had perfect little feet and a strong, correctly angulated rear. Her shoulders were correctly tacked on, and her elbows were perfect. She had an outstanding pear shape. She had a very strong, well arched neck. She gave the immediate impression of stability and power.
Health and Temperament - Hippo was a healthy animal with none of the common bulldog complaints. She had clear, healthy, properly constructed eyes with no extra eyelashes. She had an excellent throat and soft palate, with wide open nostrils. Her skin was healthy, with no allergies or other complaints. Her tail was properly and freely set, with no problems. She was structurally sound until the day she died at age eleven and a half. Her father was eleven when he died; her grandsires were 12 and 13; her maternal grandmother was 12 and a half. Her temperament was outgoing, sociable and clownish; she got along well with dogs and people.
Show Record
Hippo was 7 months old when she earned her first point, and she had class wins at a number of specialties. She had ten points when she slipped on a patch of ice and destroyed her cruciate ligaments. She had surgery, but the results were not good enough to enable her to complete her championship.
Breeding Record
Hippo’s dam produced three champions from her only litter. Her sire is in the BCA Hall of Fame with 13 champions to his credit to date. Both grandsires and her paternal grandmother are Hall of Fame Top Producers; her maternal grandmother produced 3 champions.
Hippo had one litter of three. Her only daughter, Ch. Resolute Maximum Emmy Lou, finished with three specialty majors and multiple specialty sweepstakes wins. As a special, she had multiple specialty BOS with limited showing.
