Conformation
Jason was shown at 60 pounds. He is a brilliant red and white (clear white with
no ticking) with an excellent coat and no allergies. He has an excellent throat
and wide nostrils; he has no problems tolerating exercise or heat and shows with
his mouth shut in summer. His front movement is very strong and he has very good
reach and drive and a pronounced roll; he has three generations of strong movers
behind him. Jason is active and outgoing; he loves the ladies, plays with
puppies, and has never met a person he wouldn’t kiss. In the show ring, his tail
wags throughout his examination by the judge. He is territorial about his home,
and like his mother, is a good watchdog.
Jason has a clean, classic brick-shaped head, well broken up with a very deep
stop along its entire length. He has beautiful layback and great length of
skull, and a very wide, true, well-turned jaw of correct length, which buttons
up perfectly. His ears are properly set and correctly rosed, but slightly
thicker than the ideal. His head is large and his foreface is excellent. His
eyes are dark, and particularly strong in his line -- there are no extra
eyelashes and no structural problems of any kind in his own eyes, his parents’
or any of his grandparents’. His pigment is "shoe polish black," and appeared
early. His overall head type and structure is almost identical to his mother’s;
this look has been consistent through the maternal line for three generations.
Heads come in very early in this line.
Jason is well balanced, with very good bone, good rib and a nice line to the
shoulder. Front movement is very strong in his line, and he is typical. He has a
powerful, well muscled neck with a pronounced "stallion" arch which he got from
both parents. He has neat little feet with good pasterns. His tail is good, and
there are no tail problems with his parents or any of his grandparents. His back
is "medium-short"; his topline is on par with most of the males now being shown,
but slightly flatter than the ideal. His brisket is good and tuckup is
excellent.
Show Record
Jason was Best Puppy in Match at the Bulldog Club of New Jersey specialty match
at seven months and pointed at eight months at his first show; he placed in the
puppy class at the 1997 Nationals. He took a specialty major at Bulldog Club of
Cincinnati under Frank Kauffman, took Best of Breed over specials from the
classes, and finished with a four point major at the Bulldog Club of New England
sponsored backup show to their specialty. He won the
Stud Dog class at the BCA Division
1 backup show to the 1999 Nationals under Bob Rawlinson.
Breeding Background
Jason comes from a background of strong producers, and his first few litters
have shown the same promise. Jason’s sire, CH. RESOLUTE DREADNOUGHT, has
produced 10 champions to date – nine of them have one or more specialty majors,
and two more are pointed and currently in the show ring. Jason’s mom, Resolute
Stardust, produced three champions (including Jason) -- two finished with one or
more specialty majors, and the third finished with three majors. Jason’s
maternal half-sisters include Ch. RESOLUTE SONRISE RISIN’
STAR, a Hall of Fame bitch who finished with a specialty major and several
subsequent specialty Best of Opposites; she is also the dam of Ch. Resolute
Sonrise Polaris, who won the 1999 National Sweepstakes and finished with three
specialty majors. Ch. Resolute Bettebus Belle Star
finished with three majors, including one at the Lower Susquehanna Bulldog Club
sponsored backup to their specialty show, under Birdie Newbill.
Jason’s first litter was an outcross breeding which produced three show bitches.
Ch. Helfyre’s Berkshire Rhapsody was Best
Puppy Bitch at the Bulldog Club of New England Specialty match; Best in
Sweepstakes at the Bulldog Club of New England Specialty; and Best in Futurity
at the Bulldog Club of New Jersey Breeder’s Futurity. Littermate
Ch. Helfyre’s Fat Chance was Reserve
Winner's Bitch at the Bulldog Club of New England Specialty.
Helfyre’s Resolute Funny Girl, who we purchased
from the breeder is pointed and has specialty class wins/placements. All three
are 45-48 pounds, short-backed, and heavy boned with exceptionally good rib with
excellent tuck-up. All have nice flat heads with excellent length of skull, deep
stops and beautiful turn to the jaw; beautiful coats and markings with very rich
color, and perfect little feet. Their mom had no tail – all pups in the litter
have real tails.
From a distant line breeding (fourth generation connections), Jason sired
Ch. Sochabull Touched by Angels, who was
Best in Futurity at Bulldog Club of New Jersey under Ruth Lebo, Best in Futurity
at Long Island Bulldog Club under Dave Oser; pointed from the puppy class, going
Best of Breed over specials, and Best of Winners at the Lower Susquehanna
Bulldog Club and the Bulldog Club of New Jersey specialties for back-to-back 5
point specialty majors. She won the Bred by Exhibitor class at the Bulldog Club
of New England backup to the 1999 Nationals. She is perfectly balanced,
strong-moving bitch with a great head and neck, nice bone, beautiful rib and
brisket, and a lovely top line and tail set.
In another litter, line bred
on Cherokee lines, he had three puppies. One, Post Hoc Resolute Lucky
Break, lives with us and will be shown this fall.
