Conformation

General Properties -  Whitney was a clean, balanced bitch who was shown at approximately 54 pounds.  She was a clear, brilliant white with a small fawn brindle patch on her temple.  She had heavy, very black pigment, with eye rims and lips fully pigmented.  She had a thick, healthy coat – not a "see through" white – with no skin problems or allergies of any kind.  She had an excellent throat and wide nostrils, and showed with her mouth shut even in summer.  She was exceptionally sound and healthy throughout her life, and died in her sleep at age 11.

Whitney was an exceptionally powerful mover from every angle, with reach and drive that are unusual in this breed; at age 11 she didn’t even have arthritis, and she never had problems with her hips, cruciate ligaments, or patellas.  Whitney was a strong, active, very intelligent animal who easily won competitive veteran’s classes at 9+ years of age.  She liked male dogs, was dominant toward bitches, and affectionate and somewhat possessive of her people.  Although her head and movement were obvious very early, her rib and shoulders came in somewhat later than average.  She was slab-sided and high on the leg at one, and nicely ribbed by two, when she finished.  At three, she was barrel-chested and beating male specials regularly.

Head -  Whitney’s head was hard to fault.  She had flawless layback and tremendous length of skull, with a very deep stop which extended the full length of her skull.  She had a very broad, well-turned jaw which buttoned up perfectly with no teeth showing.  Her teeth were perfectly straight and her jaw was still true at age 11.  Her eyes were almost black, properly set, and completely healthy.  Her nose was properly set.  Her head was very clean, with a single wrinkle over the nose and just enough dewlap and flews.  She had full cheeks and thin, little rose ears which formed a perfect line with her skull.  She had a strong, well-arched neck.

Body -  Whitney was an athletic dog who could easily have done what bulldogs were originally bred to do.  She was a strong, well-knit animal with well laid-back shoulders, proper rear angulation and well let-down hocks.  She had strong pasterns and small, neat little feet.  She was medium-backed, with medium bone and a topline somewhat straighter than the ideal; her tail and tail set were good, and she never had tail problems of any kind.  As a mature animal she had excellent rib and tuckup; she could have used a bit more depth through the brisket.

Show Record

We bought Whitney as an eleven-month-old, so she was not shown in puppy matches or puppy classes. Whitney took her first points under Cyril Bernfeld and finished by going BOS over specials for a four point major under Bob Hetherington.  As a special, her spectacular movement and conformation led to her frequently taking Best of Breeds over the male specials.

Breeding Record

Whitney was the foundation of a wonderful line in our kennel.  She was the dam of Ch. Resolute Magic Mountain, who sired Ch. Shrink-A-Bull Go for the Blu and Resolute Mountain MelodyCh. Post Hoc Whispering Hope; Resolute Stardust, who produced Ch. Resolute Argonaut, CH. RESOLUTE SONRISE RISIN' STAR, Ch. Bettebus Belle Star and Resolute Emma Pauline; and Resolute Rosie Lidell, who produced Ch. Resolute Rosewood Gentle Ben and Ch. Resolute Sochabull Peggy Sue.  They have influenced our breeding program and that of the Hansel’s through their offspring.
